Function Table
a table organizing the input, rule, and output of a function
Function Rule
An expression that describes the relationship between each input and output.
Function
A relationship that assigns exactly one output value to one input value.
Independent variable
the variable in a relation with a value that is subject to choice.. It is the "input" value of the function, (usually the x variable)
Dependent Variable
the variable in a relation with a value that depends on the value of the independent variable. The "output" value of a function, (usually the y variable)
Inequality
A mathematical sentence indicating that two quantities are not equal.
Sequence
A list of numbers in a specific order such as 1,2,3,4 or 2,4,6,8 etc..
Geometric sequence
a sequence in which each term is found by multiplying the previous term by the same constant. For example: 1, 3, 9, 27 (multiplying three)
Arithemetic sequence
A sequence in which the difference between any two consecutive terms is a constant. For example: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 (adding two)
Term
Each part of an algebraic expression separated by an a plus or minus sign. It can be a single number or variable or numbers and variables multiplied together.
Identity Property
The _______ states that the sum of any number and 0 equals the number and that the product of any number and 1 equals the number
Commutative Property
The _____ Property is the order in which two numbers are multiplied or added does not change the product or sum
Associative Property
The _____ Property is the way in which three or more numbers are grouped does not change the sum or product
Ordered pair
A pair or numbers used to locate a point on the coordinate plane
Coordinate plane
A plane in which a horizontal number line and vertical number line intersect at their 0 points
X-coordinate
the first number in an ordered pair
Y-coordinate
the second number in an ordered pair
Quadrants
The four regions in a coordinate plane separated by the x-axis and y-axis.
Absolute value
The distance between a number and zero on a number line.
Product
the answer to a multiplication problem
Sum
the answer to an addition problem
Annex
To add zeros at the end of a decimal
Quotient
the answer to a division problem

any number that can be written as a fraction
denominator
The bottom number in a fraction
numerator
the top number in a fraction
Area
the size of a surface. the amount of space inside the boundary of a flat 2 dimensional object such as a triangle or circle. A=lw
Perimeter
the distance around a two dimensional shape
Base
in a power, the number used as a factor 10 to the 3rd power, 10 is the base
Parallel
two lines on a plan that never meet. these lines never touch and are the same distance apart
Composite Figures
a figure made of triangles, quadrilaterals, semicircles, and other two dimensional figures
Height
the shortest distance from the base of a parallelogram to its opposite side
Congruent
Having the same measure
Polygon
a simple closed figure formed by three or more straight line segments
quadrilateral
a polygon with four sides
Parallelogram
a quadrilateral with opposite sides parallel and opposite sides congruent
rectangle
a parallelogram with 4 right angles and opposite sides parallel and equal in length
