Old Major presents his idealistic concept of animalism, and the other animals agree and propose a revolution. The animals then revolt against Mr. Jones, and win. The seven commandments are then created. The pigs slowly start to make themselves the leaders of this "equal" society. After a while, the two pig leaders, snowball and napoleon, start to fight about everything, and when the vote for a windmill occurs, Napoleon uses his trained attack dogs to chase snowball away. One day, the windmill (that ended up being built) fell after a storm and napoleon claimed it was snowball's sabotage. Napoleon then starts the great purge, where various animals are murdered for allegedly being on Snowball's side. Napoleon then begins expanding his powers and acting more and more like a human: he trades, drinks, sleeps in a bed, and even walks on 2 legs. With squealer being able to justify every action, Napoleon was unquestioned. At the end of the novel, the animals don't know which are the pigs and which are the people.
