"Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, "King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us[a] from Your Majesty's hand. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up."
"As soon as you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up."
"Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink."
"Gomer conceived again and gave birth to a daughter. Then the Lord said to Hosea, "Call her Lo-Ruhamah (which means "not loved"), for I will no longer show love to Israel, that I should at all forgive them."
"Therefore I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the wilderness and speak tenderly to her."
"Then I told her, "You are to live with me many days; you must not be a prostitute or be intimate with any man, and I will behave the same way toward you.""
"For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings."
"Hear this, you elders; listen, all who live in the land. Has anything like this ever happened in your days or in the days of your ancestors?"
"Despair, you farmers, wail, you vine growers;
grieve for the wheat and the barley, because the harvest of the field is destroyed. The vine is dried up and the fig tree is withered; the pomegranate, the palm and the apple[a] tree—all the trees of the field—are dried up. Surely the people's joy is withered away."
"The Lord thunders at the head of his army;
his forces are beyond number, and mighty is the army that obeys his command. The day of the Lord is great; it is dreadful. Who can endure it?"
"Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity."
"And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions."
"And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved;
for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the Lord has said, even among the survivors whom the Lord calls."
"This is what the Lord says: "For three sins of Israel, even for four, I will not relent. They sell the innocent for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals."
"Hear this word, you cows of Bashan on Mount Samaria, you women who oppress the poor and crush the needy and say to your husbands, "Bring us some drinks!""
"I gave you empty stomachs in every city and lack of bread in every town, yet you have not returned to me,"declares the Lord."
"Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is."
"But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!"
"On the day you stood aloof while strangers carried off his wealth
and foreigners entered his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem, you were like one of them."
"Deliverers will go up on Mount Zion to govern the mountains of Esau. And the kingdom will be the Lord's."
"The captain went to him and said, "How can you sleep? Get up and call on your god! Maybe he will take notice of us so that we will not perish.""
"Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God's love for them."
"The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head."
"When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction he had threatened."
"And should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left—and also many animals?"
"All this is because of Jacob's transgression, because of the sins of the people of Israel. What is Jacob's transgression? Is it not Samaria? What is Judah's high place? Is it not Jerusalem?"
Then I said, "Listen, you leaders of Jacob, you rulers of Israel. Should you not embrace justice, you who hate good and love evil; who tear the skin from my people and the flesh from their bones;
Therefore night will come over you, without visions, and darkness, without divination. The sun will set for the prophets, and the day will go dark for them.
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly[a] with your God.
The Lord is slow to anger but great in power; the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished. His way is in the whirlwind and the storm, and clouds are the dust of his feet.
"I am against you," declares the Lord Almighty. "I will lift your skirts over your face. I will show the nations your nakedness and the kingdoms your shame.
How long, Lord, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, "Violence!" but you do not save?
"Look at the nations and watch—and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.
Therefore he sacrifices to his net and burns incense to his dragnet, for by his net he lives in luxury and enjoys the choicest food.
"See, the enemy is puffed up; his desires are not upright—but the righteous person will live by his faithfulness!
Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls,
At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps and punish those who are complacent, who are like wine left on its dregs, who think, 'The Lord will do nothing, either good or bad.'
"Then I will purify the lips of the peoples, that all of them may call on the name of the Lord and serve him shoulder to shoulder.
You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it."
'Who of you is left who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not seem to you like nothing?
'The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,' says the Lord Almighty. 'And in this place I will grant peace,' declares the Lord Almighty."
Therefore tell the people: This is what the Lord Almighty says: 'Return to me,' declares the Lord Almighty, 'and I will return to you,' says the Lord Almighty.
During the night I had a vision, and there before me was a man mounted on a redhorse. He was standing among the myrtle trees in a ravine. Behind him were red, brown and white horses.
"Shout and be glad, Daughter Zion. For I am coming, and I will live among you,"declares the Lord.
So he said to me, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the Lord Almighty.
This is what the Lord Almighty says: "In those days ten people from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, 'Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.'"
"I have loved you," says the Lord. "But you ask, 'How have you loved us?' "Was not Esau Jacob's brother?" declares the Lord. "Yet I have loved Jacob, but Esau I have hated, and I have turned his hill country into a wasteland and left his inheritance to the desert jackals."
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the Lord Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.
Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honored his name.
