-Stomach stapling and gastric reduction
-Criteria: clinically been severely obese, BMI greater than 35, health problems that can only be alleviated through weight loss, no history of psych problems or eating disorders, those who have not achieved weight loss with diet and exercise
-Bowel obstruction, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, gallstones, low blood sugar, ulcers, possible death in rare cases.
-Long term success all depends on the individual making the changes and following diet plan
-Strengths: promotes rapid weight loss, dieters eat unlimited amounts of protein rich/fatty foods, proven to have results, not time-consuming or expensive
-Weaknesses: diet is very restrictive, condones high consumption of saturated fats, diet can cause bad breath, nausea and headaches because it is so restrictive it cuts out valuable nutrients, relies on protein from meat fish dairy (vegetarians/vegans cannot do it)
-DASH is a better diet because it includes fat free milk/foods, incorporates fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, nuts, seeds, legumes
