Ribbon
A set of toolbars at the top of the window in Office programs designed to help you quickly find the commands that you need to complete a task.
Cut
The icon on the Home ribbon that will "cut" the selected text or object.
Copy
The icon on the Home ribbon that will "copy" the selected text or object.
Paste
The icon on the Home ribbon that will "paste" the selected text or object that has been cut or copied and is available on the clipboard.
Line Spacing
The icon on the Home ribbon that will "change the spacing" of the selected text (single spacing v. double spacing, or a custom variation.)
Bullets
Organizational tool in writing to create a type of list.
Numbered List
Alignment
The icons on the Home ribbon that will assign the arrangement of the text, in relation to the margins of the document: in order from left to right: Left Align, Center, Right Align, Justify
Margins
The icon on the Page Layout ribbon that allows you to change the margins of the document.
Landscape
The icon on the Page Layout ribbon that allows you to change the direction (or orientation) of the document. Landscape has the long sides at the top and bottom.
Portrait
The icon on the Page Layout ribbon that allows you to change the direction (or orientation) of the document. Portrait has the short sides at the top and bottom.
Bold
Any text that is darker and heavier than normal to help emphasize a remark or comment.
Back Button
The Undo command undoes anything you do in Word, which includes formatting text, moving blocks, typing and deleting text, images, objects, etc.
Save
To record a copy of your document to the location that it is already in.
Save As
This opens the options on what type of file to save, where to save it, and what to name the file. You need to use this with new files AND when you want to save the same file to a different location, with a different name, and/or in a different format.
Text
Area on the ribbon provides formatting tools for font including style, size, and color.
File Menu
It often appears as the first item in the menu bar, and contains commands relating to the handling of files, such as open, save, print, etc.
Word
The file extension for this application is .doc
Select Text
You must choose something prior to making a formatting change.
Highlight Tool
Use this to add color as with a marker.
Spell Check
Use this to review your document for spelling corrections.
