Biomechanics Test 1
Terms in this set (20)
science of the structure of the body.
attaching action to the understanding of various structures (taking structure and function and putting them together).
study of movement; tends to overlap with biomechanics.
physics applied to a living organism.
data collection, numeric evaluation and measurements. Spatial and temporal.
Observational and non-numerical evaluation. Observing and giving feedback.
object moves as a whole from point A to point B. Two types: Rectilinear and Curvilinear.
all components of an object move in a straight line
Same distance, same speed, and same direction.
curved path. Example: A baseball that was hit and is in the air.
object on a radius rotates around a fixed axis of rotation
Not moving at same speed & same time.
Objects farther away have to more faster than things closer to the axis of rotation even though they meet their destinations at the same time.
combination of linear & angular motion (most of what human movement is made of).
forces acting on a system (single object or collection of objects). Has to do with Newton's three laws.
spatial and temporal characteristics of motion (variables used to describe the motion). Descriptive variables. 2 different variables: linear and angular.
Law of Inertia
object at rest remains at rest...object in motion remains in motion...
Law of acceleration
F = ma; object accelerates or changes direction due to an external force
Law of action-reaction
for every action, there is an equal but opposite reaction.
mechanics of equilibrium, no acceleration.
mechanics used to evaluate movement (lots of movement occurring). Lot of acceleration, more complex, involves acceleration.
measure of inertia. measured in kgs or pounds.
measure of the force of gravity acting on an object. Example: body weight can change due to gravity.
