Natural numbers ( counting numbers) and zero; 0, 1, 2, 3...
All whole numbers (both positive and negative) and zero.
All positive and negative integers, fractions and decimal numbers.
Any real number which cant be expressed as a fraction of two integers. Non repeating non terminating decimals are irrational
The set of all rational and irrational numbers
All numbers, a combination of a real and an imaginary numbers.
The product of a whole number and any other whole number.
A number that is multiplied by another number to get a product
A whole number that has exactly two factors, 1 and itself.
Odd and Even numbers
All multiples of 2 are even and numbers which are not multiples of 2 are odd numbers
Integers in counting order
The distance of a number from zero on a number line
The amount left over when one number is divided by another.
A comparison of two quantities by division.
A ratio that compares two quantities measured in different units
A rate in which the second quantity in the comparison is one unit
A ratio that compares a number to 100
An equation stating that two ratios are equal
a constant (number by itself); a variable ( a letter that represents a number); product of a number and a variable; product of two variables; quotient of two numbers or variables
Terms that contain the same variables raised to the same power.
A collection of terms that are separated by addition and/or subtraction.
Parts of Expression
Coefficient, Variable, Constant, Operator
A mathematical notation indicating the number of times a quantity is multiplied by itself. It is also called as index or power.
A radical (√) symbol used to describe a square root, cube root, a fourth root, or higher roots.
An expression with an equal (=) sign
A statement that compares two quantities using <, >, ≤ or ≥
An equation whose graph is a straight line
Polynomial is the collection of a number of terms. It can have constants, variables and exponents but never division by a variable and/or negative or fractional power.
A polynomial with a degree of 2
A relation in which each element of the domain (input) is paired with exactly one element of the range (output).
Eg: f(x) = 2x - 1
If x (input or domain) = 2 ; f(x) (output or range) = 3
Domain and Range
Domain is all possible input values to a function.
Range is all possible output values to a function.
Mean (or Average)
The sum (+) of all data divided by the number of data points.
Middle score in a distribution; half the scores are above it and half are below it.
The value that occurs most frequently in a given data set.
The difference between the highest and lowest scores in a distribution.
A segment whose endpoints lie on a circle.
A chord that passes through the center of the circle. Half of diameter is Radius.
A line that touches the circle at only one point.
A line that intersects a circle in two points.
Part of a circle connecting two points on the circle.
A region bounded by two radii and an arc lying between the radii.
The sum of the lengths of the sides of a polygon.
The number of square units required to cover a surface.
Amount of space occupied by an object.
The sum of the areas of all the faces or surfaces that enclose a solid.
A point where two or more straight lines meet.
A coordinate system formed by the intersection of a horizontal number line, called the x-axis, and a vertical number line, called the y-axis.
The steepness of a line on a graph. Slope is Rise over Run.
