Hepburn Act (1906)

led by the women's Christian Temperance Movement (WCTU) they promoted temperance- the practice of never drinking alcohol again. the likes: they were both activists for the blacks treatment and civil rights. They both attended Harvard and were raised in New England. Both urged African Americans to demand immediately all the rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
The Differences: their methods on gaining the Blacks rights. Washington wanted Blacks to educate themselves and achieve economic independence before civil rights. Black people must tolerate discrimination while they proved themselves equal to white people. slowly, civil rights would come.
Dubois was outspoken and believed that black Americans need to demand their social and civil rights or else become permanent victims of racism. African Americans must fight every day for the rights given to them by the constitution.

Men had terrible jobs they would work for many hard and long hours. then with their earnings, they went to drink to cope with their horrid jobs and come home angry and drunk and beat their woman. This was bad for the kids too because they watched the domestic abuse.

Imperialist- Guantanamo bay. Roosevelt corollary. American nationalist and believed other countries were less than America and that America was the best. He was the leader of the rough riders. The Calvary unit was used during the Spanish-American war to take P.R. He wanted to claim territory for America. Panama Canal- was a shortcut to trade goods built by Roosevelt for America.
Progressive- busted bad trusts and monopolies, regulated the industry and cared for small businesses. He passed laws that protected the consumers health like the Pure Food and Drug Act and the Meat Inspection Act.
