Problems with the League of Nations?
President Wilson realized that the peace settlement included unwise provisions that could serve as new causes for conflict. It was not very effective in keeping peace. One problem was the failure of the US not wanting to join because it did not want to be included in European affair. U.S senate refused to approve the Treaty of Versailles which meant that the US could not join the League of Nations. Making the League weak. The remaining member could not agree to use force against aggression.

The Great depression is low economic activity and rising unemployment. The first reason for it was the downturns in the economies of countries. 1920s 30s. the depression caused a high unemployment which caused the whole countr to suffer. People let the government take more control beleiving that they could fix it. Dictators like Mussolini and Hitler used nationalism to attract people. They knew how angry the Italian and German were after the peace settlement. They used propaganda to convince the people.

He united Austria and with his cunningness got Sudetenland. He made up the blitzkrieg which made up of panzer divisions wich came with airplanes, supplies and 300 tanks. It first broke through Polish lines and conquered it within 4 weeks. Then another blitzkrieg against Denmark and Norway and another in Netherlands, Belgium and France. Main assualt through Luxemburg and Ardennes. It raced to Nothern France and defeated the Maginot Lines splitting the Allies. The French signed an armistice in wich Germany got 3/5 of France the remainder was called Vichy France.

Hitler wanted to invade Soviet Union in spring of 1941 but the attack was delayed because his southern flank was exposed to the British Air bases in Greece because Mussolini's invasion in Greece failed. He had already got Hungary, Romania dn Bulgaria to to cooperate. To secure the flank he seized both Greece and Yugoslavia in April. then he attacked Sov in June 22,1941 believing that it would be over before winter. Germans captured 2 million soldiers. Swept through Ukraine, Leningrad and clsoe to Moscow but the winter and fiecre Soviet resistance stopped the German advance. Germans had no winter uniforms.

The japanese were in need of resources so it started to expand. Japanese first disguised themselved as Chinese blowing up the Muncharian railroads and blamed it on the Chinese. they then conquered Muncharia. They named it Manchukuo and placed Henry Pu Yi at the throne. Japan left the League of Nations and started controling Norht china. The emperor of China wanted to avoid conflict with Japan so he could deal with communists. He allowed Japan to govern North China. Chinese and Japanese forces clashed and Japan seized the capital of Nanjing. Japan used force. Japan wanted to establish the New Order where Asia united and Japan lead. Knowing it was not safe to conquer Siberia they conquered Southeat Asia instead but U.S. would not let them threatening to not give oil and srap metal. So Japan launched a surprise attack.
