Proof directly from the text to support your answer
The big idea or message the author wants to get across to the reader. An example might be "kindness" or "honesty",
central message, lesson or moral
A truth that the author wants to teach the reader about life. "Never give up" is a good example of this vocabulary term.
A story where animals with human-like qualities undergo a conflict or problem. One of the characters usually learns an important life truth.
Important details from the story that support the main idea of the text.
Words to describe a character usually determined by looking at their actions and dialogue.
Briefly retell a story using the important details from the text.
Comparing two typically unlike objects to each other to create a powerful statement. Similes, metaphors and idioms are examples.
Determine the meaning of unknown words or phrases by reading the text around the words.
point of view
The viewpoint from which the story is told.
Pictures or drawings in a text that give you additional information sometimes not found within the text.

when a nonfiction text is organized by an event causing other events to happen

when a nonfiction text is organized by looking at how two topics are similar and different
a nonfiction text that describes many aspects of a topic
a text is organized by the steps of a process, time line or other order in which something happens
a nonfiction text that presents a problem and then discusses possible solutions.
where and when the story takes place
The sentence that explains what the passage or text is mainly about. It can be directly in the text or not.
Parts of the text that give more information than the text. Example are captions, maps, charts, diagrams, etc.
ways students find to relate the text they are reading to a part of their life
PIcturing the story you are reading in your head. "Movie in your Mind"
