Dopamine Agonist
Used to decrease prolactin release especially in prolcatinomas
Paradoxically decreases GH secretion from GH-secreting adenomas

More effective than bromocriptine with less side effects and a longer half life.

Growth Hormone Agonist
Used to treat growth failure in GH deficiency & Cachexia in AIDS patients.
SE: Fluid retention & edema that usually reduces with treatment but may progress to increased intracranial pressure. Also see hyperglycemia & hypothyridism (so not in DM & hypothrodism)

Growth Hormone Agonist
Similar to Somatropin but has an extra methionine.

Mecasermin Rinfabate

Insulin-like Growth Factor-1(IGF-1) Agonist & IGF-binding protein-3 (rhIGFBP-3)
rhIGFBP-3 increases the half-life of IGF-1 so useful for those who are unresponsive to GH therapy due to ~IGF-1 Deletion/mutation ~GH Receptor Mutation ~ GH antibodies

Somatostatin Analogs
Used to treat GH excess (acromegaly), Hormone secreting tumors, & excessive diarrhea.
Can reduce tumor size and growth.
SE: GI in 50% pts that subsides with treatment & Gallstones & gallbladder sludge

Growth Hormone Receptor Antagonist
Used only to treat excessive GH (acromegaly)
Returns IGF-1 levels to normal
Increases growth of tumors (lack of neg feedback)

Gonadotropin-releasing Homone Agonist
Short-acting used to treat infertility
NO LONGER AVAILABLE IN THE US

Leuprolide & Goserelin

Gonadotropin-releasing Hormone Agonist
Long-acting therefore inhibits the HPG axis
Intially causes a surge of GnRH followed by inhibition of GnRH
Tx of Prostate cancer to reduce androgen production and for precocious puberty
SE: Causes menopausal symptoms in women. Testicular atrophy → menopause like symptoms.
Men w/ metastatic prostate tumors the ↑ testosterone may lead to bone pain (administer anti-androgen initially)

GnRH Antagonist
Works more quickly that agonist without initial androgen increase.
Suppresses endogenous LH & FSH for ART
