Islam is both a religious and ...way of life. Islamic law governs many aspects of daily life. The Islamic traditions determine ethical behavior and influnce family relations.

They controlled land around the Mediterrian. Muslims were archers/bold fighters and Hindus were weaker and rode elephants. Muslims were united and Hindu were battling among themselves.
11.2 What movements emerged within Islam
Split between Sunni & Shiites. Linking Eruope/Asia/Africa through Muslim trade network. Arabic becomes share language of Muslims. (Muslims learned Arabic because it is the language of the Quran. Wherever Islam spread, so did knowledge of Arabic.)

Abbassid control was fragmented/divided by independent dynasties that ruled separate Muslim states. Civil and Foreign Invasions added chaos. Shiites took over parts of empire.
11.3 How were Muslim Society & Economy organized
Society-- People were able to move up in social class-by religious, scholar, or military achievements: & slaves had ways to gain freedom:::. Economy--Muslims built a great TRADE Network, MANUfacturing was organized by guilds and regulated prices, and AGRIculture was fertile and all good brought to market (vegetables & Herbs were traded for Nomad items of wool, meat and hides).
11.3 Traditions influnced Muslim Art & Literature
Poetry was created from chants of journeys & The Quran:: Architecture-had adapted the shapes of domes and arches:: decoration were crafted using abstract geometric shapes & NOT of Gods or human figures:: Tales/Fables and books from storytellers were created like "Aladdin and His Magic Lamp" and 'Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves".
11.3 What muslim advances were made in Learing
Children now had Elementary Schools; There were places for studying for religion &philiosphy &historical correctness; in math algebra was developed; in astronomy they studied eclipses and calculated the circumference of the Earth; and in medicine surgeons developed a method to treat patients eyesight & also a book (called Avicenna) on diagnosis & treatment of many diseases.

There was a "new" policy of religious toleration & cultural, "blending".
