Step 1:
-Turn on the AED and follow prompts
Step 2:
-Expose the chest, wiping dry if necessary
Step 3:
-Attach the pads, using the anterior/lateral pad placement (upper right chest, and left side of chest along midaxillary line below the left armpit)
-Use anterior/posterior pad placement if manufacturer instructs
Step 4:
-Prepare to let the AED analyze the heart's rhythm, making sure nobody, including yourself, is touching the patient
-Switch positions while the AED analyzes if you are working with a team
Step 5:
-Deliver a shock, if the AED determines one is needed, making sure to say "clear" letting everybody know to not touch the adult
-While the compressor hovers their hands over the patient's chest, press the shock button to deliver the shock
Step 6:
-After the AE delivers the shock, or if no shock is needed, immediately begin CPR
Step 7:
-Continue for about 2 minutes until:
--AED prompts that is is reanalyzing
--Patient shows signs of ROSC
--Team leader or other trained providers instruct you to stop
