Intrapersonal Theory
focuses on individuals. These are characteristics of individuals such as their knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, motivation, self- concept, developmental history, past experience, skills, and behavior.
Interpersonal Theory
focuses on social contexts and social process. Assume that individuals exist within environments where other people's thoughts, advice, examples, assistance, and emotional support affect their own feelings, behaviors, and health
The Theory of Planned Behavior
The theory of planned behavior is more of an intrapersonal theory because it relies on personal beliefs, thoughts and intentions. These factors can be based on other people but most come from within us. The best predictor of behavior is INTENTIONS. Our intentions are indicated by Attitude, Subjective Norms, and Perceived Control.
Social Cognitive Theory
The social cognitive theory is more of an interpersonal theory because it relies on an individual's interaction with their environment and the experience they have. The three factors that exhibit reciprocal determinism are behavior, personal cognitive factors and socioenvironmental influences.
Social Ecological Model
Individual, Relationship, Community and Societal. The different domains of interaction that can have an impact on our health or lifestyle. This model is used primarily by the CDC to address violence prevention
Subjective Norms
When an individual is encouraged to perform a behavior to meet the expectations of another person
Perceived Control
determined by an individual's perceived power and control of their beliefs in any given situation
Attitude
If an individual holds strong beliefs that positively valued outcomes will result from performing the behavior in question they will have a positive attitude towards the behavior
