What does GPS stand for?
What is GPS?
It is a naviagtation system of 24 satellites that orbit the earth and if you have a receiver you can pinpoint your exact location on Earth's surface.
How do you "get" the signal?
You need a GPS receiver. Two examples are shown: a hand-held unit and a car unit
How does GPS work?
By measuring Time: the receiver uses the time it takes the signal to travel from the satellites to the receiver
Where does a GPS receiver work?
It will work in any weather, 24 hours a day but needs a clear line of sight - no tall building, dense forest or mountains!
What is geocaching?
Its a type of "treasure hunt" where you search for hidden caches in the woods
What is earthcaching?
This is a type of "treasure hunt" where you search for natural geologic formations
What happens if your receiver loses power and stops working?
Never depend on technology! You should know other ways of finding your way...like compass and map skills!
