Listening to student discourse with intent to remember

Students think through a problem aloud with a partner while a teacher listens and monitors conversation.

Assign partners of students for discussion of problems, strategies, examples, next steps, etc.

Groups of 4. Students take turns writing key words or ideas from lesson until time is called. Teacher records total for each team with winning team giving overview. Allow a round 2.
Inside Outside Circle
Count off by 2s. The 1s form a circle and 2s form a circle outside of other circle. Face each other. Students are given one minute to discuss question posed by teacher. When the minute is up the inside circle moves to the right and begins new discussion with new partner.
Give students a "ticket" -small slips of paper with space for writing. Students are asked to briefly write or answer the question based on the major concept of teh lesson.
