Definition of CNC*
Computer Numerical Control (CNC)
- the automation involves controlling the motion of a tool relative to workpiece to perform some type of processing

what is a part program
- series of coded instructions required to produce a part
- controls the movement of the machine tool and the on/off control of auxiliary functions such as the spindle rotation and coolant
correct tool lead-in
always horizontal (XY plane) move in rapid (G0) then feeds down (G1) in the Z axis
correct tool lead-out
move up in Z direction (G0) then laterally in the XY plane (G))
modal commands
means that once a command is issued it stays active until cancelled
modal codes: G0, G1, G2, G3
some M codes are modal (M3: spindle start, S: speed, RPM)
non-modal commands
if using a non-modal command you have to repeat it for every line you want to use it on
most other G codes are non-modal
