-when an appeal to authority is used to overawe and make one reluctant to challenge an authority's viewpoint -when the topic under discussion is controversial amount respected authorities

Appeal to the People

When we claim that our viewpoint is correct because many other people agree with it.

Changing or exaggerating an opponent's position to make it easier to refute.
