John Proctor is symbolic of voice of reason and justice.
Tragic hero, he sacrifices himself for having committing the immoral act of adultery. Highly intelligent. Can not be a martyr for justice and can not symbolize morality because his behavior has been immoral. He expects moral behavior in others, yet his behavior has not been moral when he committed adultery.
Elizabeth Proctor she has unimpeachable honesty.
She has internal and external sense of righteousness. She lies about her husbands affair and as a wife she was cold, demanding, and suspicious. Her flaw is jealousy.
Abigail Williams she was deceptive and malicious person.
She was vengeful and she tries to protect herself from punishment when she is found dancing in the woods. And she lies by accusing other people of being witches. She is emotionally unavailable because her parents were killed by the Indians.
Deputy Governor Danforth and Judge Hathorn (irrational reasoner) was in charge of all the witch trials.
He is no nonsense, strict adherence to the law. Anybody charged with witch craft he believes is guilty. He wants to maintain the law at the cost of the individual. When Proctor signs the confession, Proctor destroys it and then he gets executed.
Reverend Samuel Parris was a demagogue. Betty Paris was his daughter and she becomes delusional after she is charged with witch craft.

He is angry, combative, and is ironic because he is charged with contempt of court when they force him to give the name of the person who him Tom Putman was using witch craft to get land. He is tragically killed.
Mary Warren is weak and pliable.
She bends easy to the will of others. She is complicit in Abigail Williams schemes. She testifies against Abigail Williams and John Proctor.
Tituba the slave of Reverend Parris. Sarah Good and she confesses to witch craft after being charged by Tituba.
