What causes us to have seasons?
The seasons are caused by the tilt of the earth's rotational axis away or toward the sun as it travels through its year-long path around the sun.
Explain why Florida is typically warmer than North Carolina.
Florida is closer to the equator.
What is the tilt of the Earth?
Why do we have a leap year?
Because the earth does not orbit the sun precisely 365 days. It occurs every 4 years.
Why are daylight hours shorter in the winter than in the summer?
In winter, as the tilt of earth's axis in relation to the sun changes, the North Pole tilts away from the sun resulting in shorter days in the northern hemisphere pf the earth.
What would happen if the earth's rotation rate slowed down?
we would have longer days (sunlight)
As earth revolves around the sun, the number of daylight hours varies from place to place. In which location would the number of daylight hours remain fairly constant?
What is our season if it is summer in Australia?
How does latitude affect climate?
the higher the latitude is, the colder the climate tends to be.
Why does moss and lichens typically grow on the north side of a tree?
The sun is always in the south so it doesn't hit the north side of the tree.
