Alpha Adrenergic Blockers
Relax certain muslces and help small blood vessels remain open. They work by keeping the hormone norepinephrine from tightening the muscles in the walls of smaller arteries and veins. Blocking that effect causes the vessels to remain open and relaxed. This imporves blood flow and lowers BP.
helps relax the bladder and prostate during prostatitis

reduces lipi-lowering medications to lower cholesterol levels and reduces plaque and reinfarction risk
MAY CAUSE RHABDOMYOLYSIS and require monitoring for muscle weakness and pain.
Drug that causes dilation of blood vessels and lowers blood pressure, prevents heart attacks, strokes, and congestive heart failure.

decrease BP and HR to prevent heart failure or infarction.
DO NOT GIVE IF HR <50 BPM
standard treatment to sedate the client recieivng mchanical ventilation to provide ventilator control ``
0.2-1mg every 1-2 hours PRN
vasodilator injected subq to counteract the effects of adrenergic agonist (norepinephrine, dopamine)
Drugs that stimulate and mimic the actions of the sympathetic nervous system. Also called sympathomimetics (vasoconstricts) that causes skin breakdown and necrosis if absrobed into the tissue.
tricyclic antidepressant (TCA)
Affects CNS (LOC, seizures, respiratory depression), cardiovascular (Increase HR, Decrease BP, arrhythmias), and Anticholinergic (dry mouth, urinary retention, hyperthermia)
CONTRAINDICATED FOR SICKLE CELL ANEMIA PT. as large doses can result in nomeperidine ( toxic metabolite) accumulation. Symptoms start with tremors and can result in a seizure
anticoagulant to prevent atrial thrombus and embolic complications
