overtime is anything over 40hrs/wk, paid at 1.5x typical hourly rate, most salary e'ees are exempt (professional, managerial, exec, supervisory role as well as creatives, blue collar workers, outside sales, first responders), minimum weekly wage is $684/wk for salaried workers but can still be req. to work crazy hrs (when this changed from $455, some ppl became hourly e'ees) group health insurance is mandatory if >50 e'ees
HMO- Health Maintenance Organization, patients receive care from HMO's contracted providers, really only covers "in-network" care, many other restrictions (referrals, ltd. number of visits, etc.)
PPO- Preferred provider Orgs, more "out of network" coverage, but financial incentives not to, less need for referrals but more expensive to see specialists
flex spending acct- allows you to contribute pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible health care expenses (no rollover)
Health Savings Acct- allows you to pay lower federal income taxes by making tax-free deposits each year. Deposits to your HSA are yours to withdraw at any time to pay for medical expenses not paid by your high deductible health plan
COBRA- Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, e'ers must allow e'ees to extend coverage at negotiated rate after a voluntary exit, reduction in work hours, or involuntary separation (excluding gross misconduct). E'ees pay full premium and have 2 mos. to decide whether to make use of COBRA coverage
