Terms for Parts of an Essay and Paragraph

A statement with a subject and opinion. This comes at the end of your introduction. It acts as a roadmap to the entire essay.
Words, phrases, or even sentences that link ideas and provide a smooth and logical flow to a writer's thoughts.
The first sentence in a body paragraph. In expository writing, it includes the subject of the paragraph, but might include something other than commentary.
It gives specific details that form the backbone of the body paragraph. fact or quote.
It is your opinion or comments about something. Icludes opinion, insight, analysis, interpretation, personal response, feelings, evaluations, and reflection.
The last sentence in a body paragraph. Does not repeat key words from the paragraph. Provides a finished feeling to the paragraph.
What happens before your concrete detail that influence its meaning. What the reader needs to know to understand the CD.
