Ellipse

The set of all points, P, in a plane the sum of whose distances from two fixed points, F₁and F₂, is constant.

Center

The midpoint of the segment connecting the foci.

Vertices

The two points where the lines throught the foci intersects the ellipse/hyperbola.

Major Axis

The line segment that joines the vertices in an ellipse.

Minor Axis

The line segment whose endpoints are on the ellipse and that is perpendicular to the major axis at the center.

Branches

The two disjointed parts of a hyperbola.

Hyperbola

The set of points in a plane the difference of whose distances from two fixed points, called foci, is constant.

Transverse Axis

The lines segment that joins the vertices in a hyperbola.

a²

In a hyperbola, the number under the variable whose term is preceded by a plus sign (+).

Asymptotes

A pair of intersecting straight lines that are approached by the two branches of the graph of a hyperbola.
