The main reason why Jamestown was founded is that a group of English people wanted to find gold set up joint stock companies/ danger, hardship, disease and death/ ppl began to eat each other/ the Plymouth settlers where there for religious reasons, they were prepared for the elements, and there colony prospered compared to Jamestown which was founded for economic reasons and faced death hardship disease and death because they were to focused on finding gold/John Smith

Indentured servitude/servants
(Contract) Indentured servants: In exchange for passage to the new world, they must serve you for 4-7 years (lower class). In 1619 the first slaves came and received freedom later. They were worked to death before contract ended. The Africans brought over were not supposed to be slaves forever according to Christianity. Eventually, indentured servants became poor whites, and slavery was reserved for Africans.

The Puritans were English Protestants in the 16th and 17th centuries who sought to purify the Church of England of Roman Catholic practices, The Puritans believed that God had formed a unique covenant, or agreement, with them. They believed that God expected them to live according to the Scriptures, to reform the Anglican Church, and to set a good example that would cause those who had remained in England to change their sinful ways. they chose to leave England/Holland because they were in search of religious freedom which they found in the new world.
