Terms in this set (16)
Sinus Tachycardia
- sinus rhythm but HR > 100 bpm
Sinus Bradycardia
- normal sinus rhythm, but HR under 60
Sinus Arrhythmia
- R-R intervals are irregular, becoming shorter with inhalation and longer with exhalation
Sinus arrest
- a pause follows NSR; length of pause is not a multiple of the underlying R-R interval
Sinus block
- a pause follows NSR; length of pause is a multiple of underlying R-R interval
Premature atrial contraction (PAC)
a beat initiated by an ectopic site that appears early in the cycle; shape of P wave and length of QRS may vary; the P wave may be inverted, upright, or biphasic
paroxysmal atrial tachycardia (PAT)
an abrupt episode of tachycardia with the HR between 140-250 bpm
Atrial Flutter
a rapid, regular firing of an ectopic site in the atrium. The flutter waves take on a sawtooth appearance and are identical. Ventricular response can be regular or irregular.
Atrial Fibrillation (A-Fib)
very fast atrial rate arising from many ectopic foci. ECG baseline is wavy or almost straight. F waves vary in shape, duration, and direction (+ or -). Ventricular rate may be fast or slow, but is irregular.
Junctional Premature Contraction
ectopic beat arises from the AV node; it may be inverted before, hidden in, or inverted after the QRS.
Usually, JPCs appear as a QRS without a preceding complex. QRS complex is very similar to sinus morphology.
junctional accelerated rhythm
- inverted P wave
- PR interval is < 0.12 seconds
- Normal QRS
- HR is 60-100 bpm
(pretend HR is between 60-100 bpm)
Junctional bradycardia
- inverted P wave appears directly before, buried in, or directly after QRS
- HR is < 40 bpm
- normal QRS
Junctional Escape Rhythm
- HR 40-60 bpm
- beat occurs late
Wondering Atrial Pacemaker (WAP)
- different P waves
- shifting sites of impulse formation (SA node, AV node, and atria)
- HR is normal (60-100 bpm)
Multifocal Atrial Tachycardia (MAT)
same as WAP only HR >100 bpm
Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT)
- HR is above 180-200
- QRS complexes are of normal configuration
- P waves cannot be discerned
