array
An arrangement of objects in equal rows.
associative property of multiplication
The product stays the same when the grouping of factors is changed. (a × b) × c = a × (b × c), where a, b, and c stand for any real numbers.
commutative property of multiplication
The product stays the same when the order of the factors is changed. a × b = b × a, where a and b are any real numbers.
distributive property
When one of the factors of a product is a sum, multiplying each addend before adding does not change the product.
dividend
A quantity to be divided.
division
To separate into equal groups and find the number in each group or the number of groups.
divisor
The quantity by which another quantity is to be divided.
factor
An integer that divides evenly into another.
hundred thousands
In the base ten numeration system, hundred thousands is the name of the place six digits to the left of the decimal-the fifth power of 10.
hundreds
In the base ten numeration system, hundreds is the name of the place three digits to the left of the decimal-the second power of 10.
hundredths
In the decimal numeration system, hundredths is the name of the next place to the right of tenths.

A method of dividing in which multiples of the divisor are subtracted from the dividend, and then the partial quotients
are added together.
measurement division (or repeated subtraction)
The action of separating something into parts, or the process of being separated.
place value
The value of the place of a digit in a number.
product
The result of multiplication.
quotient
The result of the division of one quantity by another.
remainder
The number that is left over after a whole number is divided equally by another.
ten thousands
In the base ten numeration system, ten thousands is the name of the place five digits to the left of the decimal-the fourth power of 10.
tens
In the base ten numeration system, tens is the name of the place two digits to the left of the decimal-first power of 10.
tenths
One of the equal parts when a whole is divided into 10 equal parts.

The number that tells how many equal factors there are.

The number that you are multiplying by.

partitive division (or fair-sharing)
Splitting into equal parts or groups. It is the result of "fair sharing".
power of ten
e.g. fifth power of 10 = 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10. The small number is called a power, an exponent, an index or order.
