Apostrophe
an exclamitory rhetorical figure of speech, when a talker or writer breaks off and directs speech to an imaginary person or absract quality or idea
Assonance
repitition of vowel sounds to create internal rhyming within a phrase or sentences
Consonance
a stylistic device, most commonly used in poetry annd songs, characterized by the repitition of the same consonant two or more times in a short succession
Dissonance
the diliberate avoidance of assonance
Repitition
the simple repeating of a word, within a sentece or a poetical line, with no particular placement of the words, in order to emphasize
Meter
the basic rhythmic structure of a verse
Iambic Pentameter
describes a particular rhythm that the words establish in each line
Ballad Stanza
the four-line stanza, known as a quatrain, most often found in the folk ballad
Couplet
a pair of lines of verse
Elegy

a form of stately and elaborate lyrical verse that expresses personal feelings and often rhymes
