What are the different types of motion
linear, angular, general
Explain linear motion
- 2 kinds (rectiliner and curilinear)
- referred to as translation
- occurs when all points on a body move the same distance, direction, and time
Explain the linear motion rectilinear
- straight line
- cannot be rotational
- any two points move in a straight line
- everything on the SOI is in a straight line and the orientation must be maintained
Explain the linear motion curvilinear
- curved line
- same orientation
What is the difference between rectilinear and curvilinear?
the paths followed by the points on an object in curvilinear are curved, so the direction of motion of the object is constantly changing, even though the orientation does not change
Explain angular motion
- rotation
- same angular change
- fixed axis
- AOR tells us that its fixed
- AOR is not moving through space
_ ex of fixed axis is laying on a bed doing leg raises
Explain General motion
- rotation and linear
- non-fixed axis
What are the questions asked to determine the type of motion
is there rotation?
if no --> ask is it straight or curved --> if answered straight then the movement is rectilinear --> if answered curved than it is curvilinear
if yes --> then ask is there a fixed axis or nonfixed axis --> if fixed then the movement is angular --> if nonfixed then the movement is general
give an example of linear motion - rectilinear

give an example of linear motion - curvilinear
...
give an example of angular motion
bicep curl- soi forearm, supine slr soi knee
give an example of general motion
lat pull down - soi elbow
What are the two types of mechanics
Static and dynamics
What are the two types of dynamics
kinetics and kinematics (--> linear)
what mechanics does the human body use
dynamics
Explain is projectile motion?
- can only have two forces acting on it (gravity and air resistance)
- flight
What are the three components that affect projectile motion
height of takeoff, angle at takeoff, and velocity of takeoff
example of projectile motion
diver --> the diver wants to have a short horizontal velocity and a tall vertical velocity
jumper --> a jumper wants a large horizontal velocity and a short vertical velocity
the angles differ from 30, 45, and 60 degrees
explain linear kinematics
description of linear motion
explain a vector
A quantity that has magnitude and direction
explain scalar
A physical quantity that has magnitude only.

When are vector and scalars the same?
When they're in a straight line
Displacement Formula
Pf - Pi
Speed formula
s = l/t
Velocity formula
v = Pf - Pi / Tf -Ti
Acceleration formula
a = Vf - Vi / Tf - Ti
What units are for distance and displacement
m
What units for speed and velocity
m/s
What units are for acceleration
m/s2
Practice Problem 1:
The average horizontal velocity of a penalty kick in soccer is 22m/s2. The horizontal displacement of the ball from the kicker's foot to the goal is 11m. How long does it take for the ball to reach the goal after it is kicked?
step 1: write down the 'knowns' v=22m/s d= 11m
step 2: what are we looking for? delta T
step 3: what equation: v=d/(delta T)
step 4: solve 22m/s = 11m / (delta T)
(delta T) = 11m/22m/s2
(delta T) = 0.5s
