A tax on tea; it made the east india company the only tea company allowed to sell tea to colonists. It was the reason for the Boston Tea Party.

demonstration (1773) by citizens of Boston who (disguised as Indians) raided three British ships in Boston harbor and dumped hundreds of chests of tea into the harbor

Colonists began throughing rocks and ice at British soldiers who then fired in to the crowd in self-defense, killing 5 people.
