General Gage sent 700 British soldiers to Concord to take the rebels ammo, and to Lexington to arrest Sam Adams and John Hancock. When the British had left Concord(with nothing found due to the warning they received) the colonists fired on them, killing 70 British soldiers and wounding 165. Shot heard 'Round the world started revolution.

John Locke- Doctrine of Natural Rights. It stated that individual rights transcend the power of government, "Every man is given certain inalienable rights, such as life, liberty, and property. The Declaration of Independence was written mainly by Thomas Jefferson. The purpose of the preamble was to explain how life should be. The Grievance purpose was to list all of the things Britain had done to us, and the Declaration purpose was to declare ourselves independent from Britain.

The pamphlet was to rally American troops after they had been losing battles and retreating. Washington read it to his troops and it worked. Read at Valley Forge.
