democratic
rule by the people;individual freedoms, free elections,citizens vote by secret ballot
autocracy
government by a single person having un limited power
dictatorship
country ruled by a single leader that hasn't been elected and may use force to control citizens
Asbsolute Monarchy
King, queen or emperor. Power is usually inherited or passed down. Monarchy makes all the decisions.
Constitutional Monarchy
Kings, Queens, emperors share power with elected officials with a constitution.
Oligarchy
Government in which a few people such as a dominate clan have the power. They get power from military or social status or heriditary.
Parliamentary Democracy
voters elect members to Parliament (a political party). Political party representatives choose the leader(Prime Minister) from their party
Presidential Democracy
President is chosen separately from the legislature
Unitary
All of the power is in the central government. a system of government.
Confederation
A government that join together groups or small governments. The central government has less power that individual states.
Federal
Power is shared by the powerful central government and states. States have self rule.
Theocracy
A government ruled by a religious leader according to religious law.
