What is vitiligo?
A disorder associated with patterned loss of melanin pigment that occurs when immune cells destroy the melanocytes.
-50% of those affected have a family history
-Lesions appear as hypo pigmented chalk-white complexions
-The condition is bilateral and symmetric in appearance and typically forms around orifices (mouth, eyes, nose, and anus)
-Vitiligo is cyclical
-Some patients may experience partial repigmentation
