Stroke or Brain attack
is an abnormal condition of the blood vessels of the brain, characterized by hemorrhage into the brain or the formation of an embolus or thrombus that occludes an artery, resulting in ischemia of the brain tissue normally perfused by the damaged vessels
A stroke can have an effect on many body functions; including
-motor activity
-elimination
-intellectual functioning
-spatial perception
-personality
-affect
-sensation and
-communication
There are four different types of stroke
-Ischemic
-Thrombotic
-Embolic
-Hemorrhagic

-Ischemic Stroke
Thrombosis
-is the most common cause of stroke, and most common cause of cerebral thrombosis is atherosclerosis, also hypertension and diabetes mellitus
Embolism
-is the second most common cause of stroke
-people who have a stroke resulting from embolism are usually younger
-the emboli most commonly originate from a thrombus in the endocardial layer of the heart, often caused by rheumatic heart disease
Hemorrhagic stroke
accounts for approximately 15% of all strokes and results form bleeding into the brain tissue or subarachnoid space
