-For LASD arrest-notify the Captain and the arresting unit. Provide timeline of all efforts to obtain judicial review. Only the captain is authorized to release the inmate due to lack of approved PCD
What needs to happen when an inmate who requires a PCD is transferred to another county facility?
A JDIC message must be sent to IRC stating a PCD was signed prior to the 48th hour. If not sent, IRC will start the release process. A copy of the PCD can also sent via fax in place of a JDIC message
What should a deputy or booking officer do if an arrestee refuses to sign part of a booking packet?
Write "refused" in the indicated area and include their name, employee number, date and time
How often should a suicidal inmate be checked on?
Every 15 minutes

-Immediate segregation from other inmates and provided with a surgical mask (for TB only)

-Personnel shall wear PPE when handling these inmates
-The inmate shall be transported to IRC or CRDF for evaluation by medical staff
-The facility shall be advised, that the inmate may have a communicable disease
What happens if an employee is exposed to blood, bodily fluids or airborne pathogen of an inmate with a communicable disease?
-Clean and disinfect the area and seek immediate medical attention
-Gather pertinent identitying information on the individual (including what led the employee to believe the individual has an infectious disease)
-Contact supervisor immediately, and complete the appropriate employee exposure/injury paperwork, which should be completed no later than two days after incident
What happens when a person claims to take HIV/AIDS medication?
The jailer and WC shall be notified immediately

The WC shall consult with the supervising nurse from IRC to get the proper course of action to ensure the inmate receives their required medication on time.
Jailer responsibilities regarding an inmate who claims to take HIV/AIDS medication
If the determination is made to allow the inmate to self-medicate and the inmate has chosen to do so, the jailer shall have the inmate sign the Self-Medication Waiver prior to allowing them to self-medicate.
If the medication requires food, then the jailer must provide the inmate with a snack as necessary.
After the inmate is processed, he or she shall be immediately transported to IRC or CRDF.
The jailer shall enter the inmate's name, booking number, the time, and type of medication taken by the inmate in the e-UDAL.
Can a deputy or jailer administer medication to an inmate?
No, it is illegal for the unlicensed person to administer medication
Can any type of medication be provided at a station jail?
Yes, only over the counter medication can be furnished at a station jail
What happens if an inmate requires dental care?
They shall be transported to IRC/CRDF.
Minor dental issues may be addressed with OTC medication
Can an inmate retain possession of any type of medication?
An inmate can retain possession of one prescribed inhaler after receiving an "OK TO BOOK" from a physician, ascertaining the inmate has been diagnosed with asthma.
A female inmate does not have the right to continue their birth control medication
