1.Describe how the content of the team presentation was changed as a result of group discussion.
As a result of group discussion, our team presentation was changed to focus more on how we could implement a solution that has very little limitations but large implications. During our research process we were just gathering the positive and negative effects of social media, but as a result of group discussion, we created a solution based on the negative effects.
Student A, how did the group decide to include Naveed's perspective/lens/ conclusions into the overall presentation?
-We decided to include Naveed's futuristic lens into the overall presentation by identifying how the current negative effects of social media such as declining mental state will worsen as time passes.
3. Student A, how did the group decide to include Srinivas's perspective/lens/ conclusions into the overall presentation?
-We incorporated Srinivas' social lens into our overall presentation by mentioning how many teenagers gain a sense of dependency on their social relationships from social media. Although these social relationships are valuable, if they are only connected through social media, they may be harmed by feelings of isolation and social comparison.
Student A, give one specific way that your thinking changed as a result of learning about Naveeds's findings.
As a result of Naveed's findings, I found that social media actually has some very strong benefits. For example, In Naveed's IRR he argued that social media allows teenagers to elevate their societal awareness, and this is something I believe is very important for all teenagers.
Student A, give one specific way that your thinking changed as a result of learning about Srinivas's findings.
-Srinivas findings that teenagers develop a dependence on social media was something I rarely thought of in this past, but now I realize that this applies to my daily life. Social media allows us to do so many things such as check the latest news and communicate with friends that without it, sometimes we can feel lost.
In the future, what change would you make to your group norms, and how would you expect that to improve the team presentation.
Although right now it is impossible, I would like more in-person work time with my group. This would allow us to get work done quicker and without having to worry about poor internet. It would also make our transitions smoother and allow for a better overall product
Reflecting on your colleagues' work, which one had the greatest impact on your overall understanding of the problem your group identified?
Naveed's arguments that social media will negatively impact adolescents in the future had the greatest impact on the problem our group identified because it helped us identify that because social media is so new, its negative psychological effects will only worsen over time, and this is a significant problem.
In what way did you improve your ability to work with a group as a result of this project?
As a result of this project, I improved my ability to work with a group by developing a greater sense of patience. It is difficult to be extremely productive in an online environment, but the patience I developed helped me overcome the difficulties of poor internet connection and the occasional lack of communication.
7. What is an example of a compelling argument from one of your peer's individual reports that you decided to exclude from your team presentation and why?
A compelling argument that Naveed made in his IRR was that social media helps teenagers establish a sense of self-identity. Although this could have been another counterargument to our thesis, we decided to not to include this because we were mainly focused on social media's harmful effects.
What is a way in which your team's resolution makes you think differently about your own individual research?
Our team's resolution made me think differently about my own individual research because I originally thought that possible restrictions on social media were only to benefit adolescents scientifically. However, our resolution helped me realize that there were more negative effects other than just scientific ones, and that we must also take into account the futuristic and social effects of social media.
What was the strongest counter argument to the solution or conclusion your team identified and why?
The strongest counterargument our team identified was the fact that social media allows those enduring rare medical situations to seek both mental and physical support. We felt that it was a very strong argument because social media helps many struggling people receive the help they need, even in the worst of times. This is one of the main reasons that we decided to implement new policies on social media rather than completely restrict its use.
Describe an argument from one of your peer's individual reports that made you think differently about your team's solution or conclusion?
Naveed's argument that social media exposes teenagers to important issues around the world made me think differently about our team's solution because I realized that social media is not all negative and that it actually exposes teenagers to information about our world that is important to understand.
Having finished your project, what if anything do you consider to be a gap in your team's research that, if addressed, would make you feel more confident about your conclusion?
A gap in our research was that we were unable to find how removing likes on Instagram in countries such as Brazil and Japan affected social media users. If we were able to address this topic and find specific data finding that this implementation benefited social media users, then I would feel much more confident about my team's solution.
