When a teen comes in for counseling, they will be in either one of three "positions." List and give a brief definition of each of those positions.

Why is it important when the teen contacts you and makes an appointment for counseling that you are specific about the time for the counseling to start and when it will end? What does this help to facilitate?
makes appointment sound open-ended and the teen will take forever to get to the problem; helps facilitate getting to the core issue sooner
Before the counseling session starts, you must prepare in three areas? List the three areas and give a short definition or explanation of each.
-client: affirm teen, explain what to expect, set specific time
-context: safe place, no distractions, make environment comfortable
-counselor: arrive early, refresh notes and goals

-for every sin not confessed, a part of the soul is hardened

What is the formula for responding to content?
-who, what, when, where, why, how

What is the empathy question?
How would I feel if I was this person in this situation saying these things and doing these things?
What is the formula for communicating meaning?
What is the formula for communicating an understanding of what the client is feeling?
What two aspects of a feeling word must you get correct when answering the empathy question?
Be able to read a brief response by a client and then be able to respond back using the correct counseling formulas for contenting, feeling and meaning.
