What is a Preference Assessment?
Set of procedures used to determine if one or more stimuli may function to increase rates of behavior; which reinforcers are most effective?; done during the assessment process and throughout the course of therapy
What are the 5 types of Preference Assessments?
Free Operant Observation, Single Item PA, Paired Choice PA, Mulitiple Stimulus w/o Replacement PA (MSWO), Multiple Stimulus w/ Replacement PA (MSW)
Which is the most commonly used Preference Assessment?
Multiple Stimulus without Replacement (MSWO)
Why is Single Item Preference inefficient?
It takes a LONG time
How many items are needed for MSW/MSWO?
What is the purpose of Baseline/Probing?
To identify whether the learner already has a skill
How do you baseline/probe?
Present instruction without prompt and record response
How many points of data create a good baseline?
What are the pros and cons of differing lengths and extent of baselines?
More trials= higher accuracy, but takes away from teaching AND risks an increase in problematic behavior by letting student fail repeatedly
What does VB-MAPP stand for?
Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program
What does the VB-MAPP assess?
language, learning, and social skills of children with ASD or other developmental disabilities
What does ABLLS stand for?
Assessment for basic language and learning system
What is the ABLLS?
A skills based system of assessment, curriculum, and tracking system that addresses the basic language and functional skills of an individual with ASD or other developmental delays
What does the VABS3E stand for?
Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales 3rd Edition
What does the VABS3E measure?
3 domains- Communication, Daily Living Skills, and Socialization of Adaptive Functioning as defined by the DSM-5 and the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
Adaptive Functioning is NOT...
a direct measure of adaptive skills
What is the purpose of a Functional Assessment?
Determining the function of behavior and creating a plan of action
What are the 3 levels of Functional Assessment in order of lowest level of precision and difficulty to greatest?
Indirect Assessment, Direct Observation in natural routine, and Analog Functional Analysis
What are examples of Indirect Procedures?
Procedures with little to no contact including interviews-both structured and not- and reviewing records
What are examples of Direct Procedures?
Observations (e.g. ABC, frequency, duration, interval, etc.) and Skills Assessments with NO manipulations of environment
What is the purpose of an Analog procedure and what are the positives of doing this procedure?
To manipulate an environment to find functions of behavior; it's the quickest method and typically the most accurate
What is the downside of using an Analog procedure?
It elicits behaviors, thus it can be ethically questionable
What are the 5 conditions of Basic Analog Procedures?
1) Attention; Is behavior maintained by this?
2) Escape; Is behavior maintained by this?
3) Tangible; Access to item= Is behavior maintained by this?
4) Alone; Learner is alone without stimulation
5) Play; Learner is allowed to escape, has access to attention, and all tangibles without contingencies
Before implementing skills plan...
review plan, ask clarifying questions, and gather all necessary materials
What does a written skills plan include?
A target skill needed for teaching, prompting strategies, mastery criteria, reinforcement strategies, and a plan for maintenence
What 3 assessments can you use to determine function of behavior?
Functional Behavior Analysis, ABC, or Functional Behavior Assessment
What 3 ways can you do a Preference Assessement
Surveys/Questionnaires, Observation, or any Forced Choice PA
