What is essential to do a translation?
The points that it is going along. Exp: (2,0), you would add two to the x and 0 to the y.
What is a translation?
Geometric transformation that moves every point of a figure or a space by the same distance in a given direction.
You are given the points (2,0), (5,6), and (7,3) and you want to move it along (5,-4). What are the new points?
(7,-4), (10,2), and (12,-1)
What is a reflection?
Its mirror image in the axis or plane of reflection.
What is the formula for a reflection over Y=-X?
-Y, -X
What the reflection over the X axis be for the following points? (3,6), (2,-8), and (-6,4).
(3,-6), (2,8), and (-6, 4)
What are the essential things necessary for a rotation?
The origin, the direction such as CW or CCW, and the degrees.
What is the formula for a rotation from the point of origin over 180 degrees CCW for the following points? (3,6), (2,-8), and (-6,4).
(-3,-6), (-2,8), and (6,-4)
What is a rotation?
A motion of a certain space that preserves at least one point.
What is a dilation
An increase or decrease in the size while still keeping the shape.
What is essential for a dilation?
A center point and a scale factor
What would these points be after a dilation? (3,6), (2,-8), and (-6,4) with a scale factor of 3 and the center point of 0.
(9,18), (6,-24), (-18, 12)
What is a composition?
A combination of two or more transformations, each performed on the previous image.
What is needed for a composition?
You would need to know the transformations and the order that you complete them in.
What would these points be after you reflect them over the y axis and then rotate them 90 degrees clockwise from the origin? (3,6), (2,-8), and (-6,4)
(6, 3) (-8, 2) (4, -6)
What is symmetry?
An object that is invariant under some transformations; including translation, reflection, rotation or scaling
Would a reflection over the y axis and then a rotation 90 degrees clockwise be symmetric?
False
Would a reflection over the x axis, a reflection over the y axis, a reflection over the y axis again, and then a reflection over the x axis again be symmetric?
True
What is the formula for a rotation that is 90 degrees CCW?
(-y, x)
What is the formula for a rotation 270 degrees CW?
(-y, x)
