Many words in Chinese are "verb-object" compounds. For many purposes they are treated as a single word, but in fact the verb and object are different, and they can be separated or detached.
A verb object does not take an additional object. Attributive elements like adjectives or numbers must be inserted between the verb and the object.
Examples:
睡觉 > 睡一个好觉
唱歌 > 唱英文歌
跳舞 > 跳中国舞
