Terms in this set (35)
DeMarco and Lister's study on organizations and productivity found direct correlations between productivity and programming language, years of experience, and salary.
Frameworks for helping organizations improve their processes and system are called Six Sigma charts.
Integration testing involves testing of each individual component to ensure that it is as defect-free as possible.
A run chart is a bar graph that depicts data points and their order of occurrence.
Validated changes and validated deliverables are the outputs of the quality assurance process.
Project managers are ultimately responsible for quality management on their projects.
In TQC, product quality is more important than production rates, and workers are allowed to stop production whenever a quality problem occurs.
The quality assurance process involves taking responsibility for quality throughout the project's life cycle.
Customer requirements are an important aspect of the quality planning process.
Testing as a stage is important only at the end of an information technology product development.
_____ is a technique that helps identify which variables have the most influence on the overall outcome of a process.
Design of experiments
_____, a quality system standard is a three-part, continuous cycle of planning, controlling, and documenting quality in an organization.
_____ helps integrate traditionally separate organizational functions, set process improvement goals and priorities, provide guidance for quality processes, and provide a point of reference for appraising current processes
An important tool used in the _____ phase of the DMAIC process is the fishbone or Ishikawa diagram.
Validated changes and validated deliverables are the outputs of the _____ subprocess of project quality management.
monitoring and controlling
_____ is the degree to which a system performs its intended function.
_____ generates ideas for quality improvements by comparing specific project practices or product characteristics to those of other projects or products within or outside the performing organization.
____ is an independent test performed by end users prior to accepting the delivered system.
User acceptance testing
A(n) _____ is done to test each individual component (often a program) to ensure that it is as defect-free as possible.
The _____ process is often associated with the technical tools and techniques of quality management, such as Pareto charts, quality control charts, and statistical sampling.
A _____ is a graphic display of data that illustrates the results of a process over time.
_____ means the project's processes and products meet written specifications.
Conformance to requirements
Process improvement plan, quality metrics, and quality checklists are the outputs of the _____ process of project quality management.
planning quality management
_____ means that a product can be used as it was intended.
Fitness for use
Performing quality assurance is a subprocess of the _____ process of project quality management.
_____ help users to identify the vital few contributors that account for most quality problems in a system.
One of Juran's ten steps to quality improvement states that:
an organization should build awareness of the need and opportunity for improvement.
Six Sigma's target for perfection is the achievement of no more than _____ defects, errors, or mistakes per million opportunities.
The _____ is a measure of quality control equal to 1 fault in 1 million opportunities problems.
six 9s of quality rule
_____ are the system's special characteristics that appeal to users.
A _____ is a standard of measurement in quality management.
Important tools used in the _____ phase of the DMAIC process include a project charter, a description of customer requirements, process maps, and Voice of the Customer (VOC) data.
A(n) _____ is any instance where the product or service fails to meet customer requirements.
_____ addresses how well a product or service performs the customer's intended use.
_____ is the cost of evaluating processes and their outputs to ensure that a project is error-free or within an acceptable error range.

Define a pure abstract base class called BasicShape. The BasicShape class should have the following members: Private Member Variable: area, a double used to hold the shape's area. Public Member Functions: getArea. This function should return the value in the member variable area. calcArea. This function should be a pure virtual function. Next, define a class named Circle. It should be derived from the BasicShape class. It should have the following members: Private Member Variables: centerX, a long integer used to hold the x coordinate of the circle’s center. centerY, a long integer used to hold the y coordinate of the circle’s center. radius, a double used to hold the circle's radius. Public Member Functions: constructor—accepts values for centerX, centerY, and radius. Should call the overridden calcArea function described below. getCenterX—returns the value in centerX. getCenterY—returns the value in centerY.calcArea—calculates the area of the circle (area = 3.14159 * radius * radius) and stores the result in the inherited member area. Next, define a class named Rectangle. It should be derived from the BasicShape class. It should have the following members: Private Member Variables: width, a long integer used to hold the width of the rectangle. length, a long integer used to hold the length of the rectangle. Public Member Functions: constructor—accepts values for width and length. Should call the overridden calcArea function described below. getWidth—returns the value in width. getLength—returns the value in length. calcArea—calculates the area of the rectangle (area = length * width) and stores the result in the inherited member area. After you have created these classes, create a driver program that defines a Circle object and a Rectangle object. Demonstrate that each object properly calculates and reports its area.
Write a program that keeps track of a speakers’ bureau. The program should use a structure to store the following data about a speaker: Name Telephone Number Speaking Topic Fee Required The program should use an array of at least 10 structures. It should let the user enter data into the array, change the contents of any element, and display all the data stored in the array. The program should have a menu-driven user interface. Input Validation: When the data for a new speaker is entered, be sure the user enters data for all the fields. No negative amounts should be entered for a speaker’s fee.
Write a program that generates a random number in the range of 1 through 100, and asks the user to guess what the number is. If the user’s guess is higher than the random number, the program should display “Too high, try again.” If the user’s guess is lower than the random number, the program should display “Too low, try again.” If the user guesses the number, the application should congratulate the user and then generate a new random number so the game can start over.
Build a majority-rules circuit. This is a circuit that has three inputs and one output. The value of its output is 1 if and only if two or more of its inputs are 1; otherwise, the output of the circuit is 0. For example, if the three inputs are 0, 1, 1, your circuit should output a 1. If its three inputs are 0, 1, 0, it should output a 0. This circuit is frequently used in fault-tolerant computing environments where a computer must keep working correctly no matter what, for example as on a deep-space vehicle where making repairs is impossible. In these conditions, we might choose to put three computers on board and have all three do every computation; if two or more of the systems produce the same answer, we accept it. Thus, one of the machines could fail and the system would still work properly.
