bar graph

Bar chart: a chart with bars whose lengths are proportional to quantities.

A graph that shows how far apart and how evenly data are distributed.

circle graph

A graph used to compare the relationship of the parts to the whole.

distorted

To falsify data; to twist the information.

frequency table

A table used to organize a collection of data.

horizontal

Flat side to side.

key

A list of definitions/explanations to clarify the data.

leaves

A set of single digit values used to represent the ones place of a number from a stem.

line graph

A graph where plotted points are connected by straight lines.

line plot

A number line with dots or other marks to show frequency.

mean

The sum of a set of numbers divided by the number of addends.

median

The middle number or the average of the two middle numbers in an ordered set of data.

misleading

Tending to point one's thinking in the wrong direction.

mode

The number that occurs most often in a set of data: [1, 6, 6, 7] 6 is the mode.

quartile

Quarter points within the data; the first 25% and consecutive 25% groups.

range

The difference between the greatest and the least numbers in a set of data.

scale

The ratio of the size of an object or the distance in a drawing to the actual size of the object or the actual distance.

stem

The # in a stem-and-leaf-plot which is common to a set of numbers within the data.

stem-and-leaf plot

A method of organizing intervals or groups into "stems" with corresponding "leaves"

Straight up and down.
