What are the three different types of enzyme inhibition?
What is competitive enzyme inhibition?
Compete for the active site of an enzyme. Changes in drug concentration or competitor concentration results in displacement via true concentration dependent effects.
On the graph, you will see changes in KM, but VMAX stays the same.
What is noncompetitive enzyme inhibition?
Binds to the enzyme at a non-active site. Changes in drug concentration cannot reverse the inhibition. On the graph, you will see changes in the VMAX, but KM remains the same.
What is uncompetitive enzyme inhibition?
On the graph, you will see changes in both VMAX and KM.
What is the drug movement diagram?
Starts with absorption into the central compartment. From there the drug concentration is broken into bound drug and free drug. The free drug is then split further into ionized and unionized. This then moves into two other compartments when it is broken further. All is then eliminated in the separate compartments.
