Mrs. Richards Final-Cell Process

From the Final Exam List
Passive Transport
The movement of materials through a cell membrane without using energy
Active Transport
the movement of materials through a cell membrane using energy
process by which plants use the sun's energy to convert water and carbon dioxide into sugars
Cellular Respiration
the metabolic processes whereby certain organisms obtain energy from organic moelcules
Ex. processes that take place in the cells and tissues during which energy is released and carbon dioxide is produced and absorbed by the blood to be transported to the lungs
Cell growth
During the first part of interphase, the cell grows to its full size and produces structures it needs.
example: the cell produces ribosomes and enzymes
-copies are made of both mitochondria and chloroplasts
Cell division
The process in reproduction and growth by which a cell divides to form daughter cells
- the end of interphase
The stage which the cells nucleus divides into two new nuclei.
-During mitosis, one copy of the DNA is distributed into each of the two daugher cells
Four parts of Mitosis
prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase
The final stage of the cell cycle, in which the cell's cytoplasm divides, distributing the organelles into each of the two new cells.
DNA replication
ensures that each daughter cell will have the genetic information it needs to carry our its activities
