Terms in this set (29)
- Who my best friend is, what he looks like and why I like him.
- What we often do together
- What we did last summer
- What makes a good friend and why friends are important to me
My best friend's name is Marco.
He's 14 years old, so we're the same age.
Or, to be more precise, I'm a bit older
because I was born in January and he was born in March.
I have known him for about five years.
He's a student. He goes to a secondary school
in Cittadella so, unfortunately, he's not my classmate.
He lives in Cittadella, a small town not very far from Galliera.
He's quite shorter than me,
he has got short, straight,
blond hair and blue eyes.
His eyes are brighter and a little bigger than mine
and I think they are very expressive and lively.
He's got a lot of moles on his face but,
on the whole, I think he's good-looking.
He's very slim, much more than me and he's athletic.
He likes comfortable clothes so he doesn't wear anything that is elegant or formal but he prefers casual clothes, such as jeans and sweatshirts or T-shirts.
He loves sneakers and I've never seen him wearing anything but sneakers.
He can't stand designer clothes because he thinks they're too expensive and they're not necessarily better than the other ones and I agree with this.
We both think it's silly to spend so much money only to be trendy and fashionable. I think we don't need to wear one particular brand to feel confident.
To me, he's great: he's so much fun to be with, he's really funny: he likes to tell jokes and cheer up everyone. He's got a great sense of humour but the thing I like best about him is that he never makes fun of other people and he takes good care never to hurt other people's feelings or make them uncomfortable
I believe he's much more optimistic than most young people I know.
He's also more positive and energetic than other teenagers and this is one of the main reasons why I like him so much and why I get along with him.
He generally tries to see the bright side of things and, even when there are problems, he doesn't get sad.
Instead, he keeps looking for a solution and doesn't give up until he finds one.
As a matter of fact, he hates whining or complaining but this doesn't mean he's not willing to listen to you if you have a problem.
For example, if I'm in need and I'm looking for a shoulder to cry on I know that I can always turn to him, and lean on him and he never lets me down. I'm not saying this happens frequently but I'm quite sure that I can trust him and I can always count on him.
I deeply admire him for being able to give a helping hand and I consider myself very lucky to have him among my best friends.
He's got some flaws too, of course.
He's not the tidiest person in the world and he's certainly not the best organized either.
He generally gets good marks but I think he could do better especially in his Maths tests.
Generally speaking, I think he should study more.
I'm very good at Maths and I often try to help him with his homework and to explain him all the rules that somehow he finds so hard to understand.
He can be a bit forgetful too and he's also a bit lazy, especially when it comes to help his mum to clean the house or simply tidy up his bedroom.
I usually see Marco twice or three times a week but in the summer we spend much more time together and he often spends the night at my house.
When we meet we play basketball together.
We are in the same basketball team and we go to basketball practice together twice a week on Tuesday and on Friday from 3.15 to 5 o'clock.
After basketball practice we often go to his house and play computer games, do our homework or surf the net.
Sometimes we watch TV together or we watch a DVD.
We don't like the same kind of music: I love rock music and Linkin park are my favourite group.
He's really into rap music and his favourite singer is Eminem.
Marco's family is really nice. His dad Giampaolo is a factory worker. He's very cheerful and easy-going.
Marco's mother, Laura, is a cook. She works in a restaurant but in fact she's always working because even when she's at home she does all the housework: she makes the beds, she does the ironing, she does the washing up, she cleans the windows and so on.
Marco isn't an only child: he has got a brother, Alberto, and a sister: Emanuela.
I think a good friend is always ready to listen to you when you have a problem.
So-called friends disappear quickly if you're feeling down or are depressed, if you're in trouble and need help and encouragement and only true friends always stay by your side.
I also think a good friend doesn't tell you what to do and think and how to behave, he doesn't try to change you but he takes you just the way you are and respects you and the choices you make.
A true friend doesn't say a single bad word about you behind your back, and never takes advantage of you.
You can trust a good friend because you know that he or she can keep your secrets.
A good friend doesn't have to be like you, have exactly the same hobbies and be interested in the same things.
I think we all have our own specific likes and dislikes and maybe it is wrong to try to become the shadow of our best friend or his bad copy.
We have to keep our own specific personality and try to develop our own character and individuality.
