was formed under Franklin D. Roosevelt 1939, following in the footsteps of his cousin Theodore Roosevelt who expanded the President's staff.

Purpose is to help develop the federal budget.
Largest organization, 500 personnel.
Director is confirmed by the Senate.
Many staffers stay on even with Presidential changes.
Vice President
Presides over Senate
Opening and Counting the Electoral votes in a presidential election.
Serve as President if the President cannot.
The Cabinet: Executive Departments
Responsible for carrying out laws, administering programs, and making regulations in their specific area of responsibility.
Must be confirmed by Senate. Officially part of Legislative branch under the Articles of Confederation.
First Cabinet under Washington held members: Secretary of State, War, Treasury, and Attorney General.
Currently sixteen members that include the Vice President.
