Pioneers set up new farms in SW and put up barbed wire fences around their property. These fences blocked the cattle drive paths. The railroad line were built into Texas.
Describe how the SW has changed since the early 1600's.
The Native Americans farmed corn. The Spanish then introduced other crops and ranching to the region. Cowboys took over ranching and began cattle drives. Oil was discovered and oil refineries sprang up in the region creating a new industry.
