How did the Industrial Revolution affect the outcomes of the Civil War?
The industrial revolution in the North, during the first few decades of the 19th century, brought about a machine age economy that relied on wage laborers, not slaves. Southerners made huge profits from cotton and slaves and fought a war to maintain them.
What prevented cotton from being more profitable in the 1700's?
Eli Whitney's invention made the production of cotton more profitable, and increased the concentration of slaves in the cotton-producing Deep South.
