Short range goals of terrorism
Gaining recognition, reducing government credibility, obtaning funds and equipment, disrupting communications, demonstrating power, delaying the political process, reducing the government's economy, influencing elections, freeing prisioners, demoralizing and discrediting the security force, intimidating a particular group, and causing a government to overreact.
What motivates terrorism
Religion, prestige, power, political change, and material gain. Terorrists believe they are elite society and act in the name of the people.
Terrorist operations
Small sects, little interraction and tight central control held by few. Operate with good will and sympathetic foreign national governments. Share resources, expertise, and safe havens. Seek to achieve objectives through fear, intimidation and force.
