What are normed referenced scores?
Provides information on how a person performed relative to others in the group (e.g., SS, z scores, T scores, and percentiles).
What are criterion-referenced scores?
Provides information on how much of the content the person has mastered (e.g., number of correct items, percentage correct).
What are objective tests?
They do not rely on a rater's judgment for scoring, but rather use a scoring key (MMPI-2 and EPPP).
What are subjective tests?
They involve some element of the rater's judgment (TAT and Rorschach).
What are normative scores?
Tell us how someone performed relative to others (e.g., T score, percentile rank).
What are ipsative scores?
Provides information on relative strengths and weaknesses of the person only, and does NOT compare the person to others (e.g., vocational tests).
What is empirical-criterion keying?
A process for selecting items to be used in a test. They are items are keyed to an external criterion, and are intended to differentiate between groups of people who have a particular trait and those who do not (Scale on 8 on original MMPI include only those who have Schizophrenia).
What is Wisconsin Card Sorting Test and Stroop Test?
They measure cognitive functioning (problem solving and cognitive flexibility).
What does the Bender Visual-Motor Gestalt Test measure?
Perceptual/motor abilities.
What does neuropsychological testing measure?
Brain damage, disease processes, and strengths and weakness of a patient.
What are the Halstead Reitan and Luria Nebraska?
Neuropsychological batteries.
What would be required of a LD?
An achievement test score that is significantly lower than IQ (usually more than 2 SD).
What is the Vineland?
A measure of adaptive functioning often used to assess MR (scores 2 or more SD below the mean).
What is important about the MCMI?
The scales correspond closely with DSM for disorder. Because the test was normed with clinical population, it should not be used with a normal population due to exaggeration of pathology.
What are 10 scales of the MMPI?
Scale 1 - Hs (hypochondriasis; physical complaints, illness)
Scale 2 - D (depression)
Scale 3 - Hy (hysteria; defensive denial of emotion, demand for effect ion)
Scale 4 - Pd (acting out, social adjustment)
Scale 5 - Mf (high males like aesthetic interests and express warmth, low males are more masculine; high females endorse traditional male interest; low female may be passive).
Scale 6 - Pa (paranoia; suspicious, resentful, angry)
Scale 7 - Pt (psych asthenia; anxiety)
Scale 8 - Sc (schizophrenia; social and emotional alienation, poor contact with reality, unusual thinking)
Scale 9 - Ma (hypomania; poor impulse control, over activity, excessive speech)
Scale 0 - Si (social introversion; high are unassertive, limited social skills)
